Martin Lee Memorial Trophy
Earlier this year, our club, Bishop’s Badminton, sadly lost one of our members to cancer. Martin Lee was liked by all, a gentle character, who despite starting later in life, thoroughly enjoyed playing badminton, becoming quite competitive, in his own quiet way! Most of us knew little or nothing about his fight against cancer, as he asked those few who knew he was ill not to mention it. He had the love and support of family and friends, and perhaps when he came to Nunnery Wood on those Thursday evenings, it was a relief not to have to talk or think about it for just a little while. So it was a big shock to the players to hear of Martin’s untimely death in June 2018. Martin was always there, always on time, always ready to play and he is hugely missed by us all. There was a strong feeling that we should do something to recognise this and Chris Hart came up with the excellent idea of a fundraising tournament to benefit a charity that Martin supported. The Martin Lee Memorial Badminton tournament raised £60 in donations to go to the Worcester branch of the RSPCA, at Broomhall in Kempsey. We plan to play the tournament again next year.
The last session of 2018 will be on Thursday 20th December and we will start again on Thursday 3rd January 2019.
We would like to wish all our members a very happy Christmas.
